City Council Ward 3 Special Election to be held February 12
To fill the vacancy left by Ward 3 Councilmember Maria Regan Gonzalez’s election to the post of mayor, the City of Richfield will be holding a special election on February 12, 2019.
The winner of the special election would occupy the seat for the remainder of Regan Gonzalez’s term, which runs through 2020.
The filing period for residents interested in running for the Ward 3 city council seat will take place from December 13 through December 19.
Residents interested in filling the Ward 3 vacancy must reside within the ward prior to the election and while serving in office for which he or she is elected. The resident must file an affidavit of candidacy, which includes a petition containing at least 10 signatures from registered voters. A $25 filing fee must be paid upon turning in the affidavit.
The Richfield City Council will formally request that a special election is held at a special city council meeting on December 14.
