Not a runner, but still want to be involved in the Urban Wildland Half Marathon & 5K?
We'd love to have you as a volunteer! Below are the many important volunteer positions that contribute to the success of the UWHM5K.
Volunteer Job Descriptions
Packet Pickup (race day): Adult volunteers will check in participants and hand out race packets, timing chips and numbers. Packet pick-up begins at 5:45 am. Volunteers can also work the finish line once all entrants have received packets.
Parking Lot Attendants: Volunteers assist runners with parking at American Legion carpool lot and Veteran’s Park main lot. Direct runners to on-street parking when lot is full and assist them crossing 66th street. Begins at 5:30 am, when done these folks may move to finish area after 7:00 am.
Course Marshals: Adult volunteers with cell phones are stationed at strategic locations along course route to guide and monitor runners. Must arrive at station between 6:45 – 7:30 am depending on location.
Finish line: Volunteers assist runners as they finish, handing out finisher medals and directing them to the food and beverage lines, rest rooms or medical attention, monitor trash, compost and recycling bins. Will clean up area after the race. Begins at 7:00 am.
Beverage line: Volunteers fill cups with water and Powerade and keep tables stocked for finished 5K and half marathon runners. Begins at 7:00 am.
Food line: Volunteers keep food line stocked for the 5K finishers, half marathon finishers and volunteers that have been out on the course. Begins at 6:00 am.
SPECTATORS! Volunteers cheer on runners and show support for this event! We need spectators all along the course route, so find a spot near your home or school and cheer on the runners! We especially need people along 70th Street.
