Why Does Richfield Have a Friendship City?

The purpose of having "sister city" or "friendship city" relationship is to create and strengthen partnerships between U.S. and international communities in an effort to increase global cooperation at the municipal level, to promote cultural understanding and to stimulate economic development.  Municipal officials and business leaders are encouraged to conduct long-term programs of mutual benefit.

Richfield and Heredia have been friendship cities since 1991.
