Filing for Homestead

Homeowners purchasing a new or existing home, who occupy their home as their principal residences, may qualify for the homestead classification.
As has happened with several other metro cities, Richfield’s homesteading responsibilities have transitioned to Hennepin County. The shift promises to streamline the homesteading process for Richfield residents.

The City of Richfield no longer processes homesteading applications. Residents interested in homesteading their property should fill out Hennepin County's electronic homesteading application.

To learn more about homesteading through Hennepin Country or to apply online, visit: https://www.hennepin.us/homestead

All homesteading inquiries should be made to Charles Clark Jr., Hennepin County Assessor’s Office. Mr. Clark can be contacted by calling 612-348-4029 or emailing Charles.ClarkJr@hennepin.us.

The deadline to file for homestead is noon, December 1.
