Overview

Richfield Fire Department staffs two stations twenty-four hours a day, three hundred sixty-five days a year. The fire department provides fire suppression, emergency medical service, hazardous material accident mitigation, automobile extrications, ice rescue and fire prevention, inspection and education services. Richfield Fire employs a Fire Chief,  two Assistant Fire Chiefs, three Captains, three Lieutenants, 18 full-time Firefighters, and one clerical worker. All Richfield Firefighters are trained EMTs and two of RFD employees are certified Fire Investigators. In addition, several RFD personnel are members of Minnesota Task Force One, a Level III Urban Search and Rescue team trained to respond to high-angle, trench, confined-space and structural collapse rescues. The department possesses an excellent ISO Class 4 rating, which translates into favorable insurance premiums for property owners.

Response Time

The Department handled approximately 4,448 calls in 2020 with one of the top response times in the area at approximately 3 minutes. Fire losses remain low thanks to the Department's promptness and public awareness of good safety practices.

Richfield Fire also participates in the Southwest Metro Joint Operations Group, a program where neighboring departments partner in responding to calls.
