Preparing Children To Be Home Alone

637334356069470000    Decorating First Aid Kits - Copy

There is no magic age at which children develop the maturity and good sense needed to stay home alone. Make sure your 9 to 12-year-old is ready to be home unattended. Prepare them to be alone for short periods of time, before or after school or while you run errands. During this class, kids will make their own first-aid kits and learn basic first-aid techniques. We’ll discuss personal and home safety, internet safety, phone skills, fire safety, escape plans, what to do in severe weather, snack ideas, appropriate activities and more! Lunch will be provided. This class is a partnership with Richfield Police & Fire, Richfield Recreation Services, and Richfield Community Education. (Limit of 20 kids.)

Please check out www.richfieldmn.gov/onlineregistration for class dates and to register.

Additionally, we've created a Home Alone Parent's Edition video in order to help them prepare their children to stay home alone. We encourage you to watch the video and then go through the quiz and presentations below with your children.
