Department Policies
Our policies are routinely reviewed to ensure they meet the following requirements:
- Comply with any/all applicable laws/ordinances (Federal, State, County, and City);
- Comply with any/all Minnesota POST Board requirements;
- Comply with any/all applicable court precedent (Federal and State);
- Must not unnecessarily endanger the public and/or officers;
- Must be practicable and reasonable;
- Must be clearly written and easy to understand;
- Must not be outside of the professional standard of the industry.
The Chief Law Enforcement Officer (CLEO) is mandated by their POST Board License to ensure these policies are implemented and followed. Therefore, the creation of the policies is based upon the above-listed bullet points but also best practices, institutional knowledge of the profession, and working knowledge of application within the field.
The Richfield Police Department has a proud and distinguished tradition of excellent community service since its inception in 1937. Throughout our history there has been many changes; however, there has been one constant: outstanding police officers. The men and women of the Richfield Police Department make it one of the finest police departments in the State of Minnesota. They are truly committed to this mission and dedicated to serving the citizens of Richfield. I consider it a great honor to be the Chief of such an exceptional group of men and women.
Respectfully,

Jay Henthorne
Chief of Police
