Prevent water pipes from freezing

It is that time of the year again…You know when it is colder than cold. With the temperature well below freezing, some water pipes located near outside walls or in well rooms may freeze. Keep a door open in these areas to allow for enough heat to reach your water meter and pipes. This is especially important at night when no water is being used.

Tips to prevent frozen pipes:

• Insulate to prevent cold air from seeping in near water pipes
• Keep the well room area, as warm as the rest of the basement by leaving the door open

If you think your pipes may be frozen, please contact the city's utilities staff at 612-861-9198 or contact the main public works line at 612-861-9170.
