Ice & Snow Festival to debut on February 12

Winter recreation activities are an important part of Minnesota culture. However, they can be expensive and require traveling quite a few miles. In an effort to make sure everyone can experience the joys of ice fishing, snowshoeing and other winter classics, Richfield will be hosting its first Ice Festival on February 12.

“The idea for the Ice & Snow Festival grew out of our popular Ice Fishing Bowl, which we have hosted for several years before the COVID-19 pandemic,” explained Recreation Services Director Amy Markle. “Hundreds of area residents from both inside and outside of Richfield would flock to Taft Lake, so we decided to expand to include more activities this year.”

The festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on February 12 at Taft Lake, 6105 Bloomington Avenue.

Besides the traditional winter outdoor activities of snowshoeing and ice fishing, the event will also include outdoor fires, snacks, music and outdoor educational demonstrations.

The event is free and all interested participants are welcome to attend.
