Protect yourself from frozen water pipes

This winter, make sure the cold stays outside and does not threaten your water pipes inside. Pipes located near an outside wall or in an old well room are the most at risk of freezing.

Keep a door open in these areas to allow some heat to reach your water meter and pipes. This is most important at night when no water is being used.

Tips to prevent frozen pipes:
  • Insulate to prevent cold air from seeping in near water pipes
  • Keep the well room area, as warm as the rest of the basement by leaving the door open
If you think your pipes may be frozen, please contact the city's utilities staff at 612-861-9198.
